Journey to Lacrosse, Wisconsin
My partner and I love to travel. We might not always go far, and sometimes you hit a gold mine within a couple of hours of Minneapolis/ St. Paul.
We live in the suburbs of the “Twin Cities”…
This past weekend we chose to travel to scenic and lovely Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Typically, it’s about a 2.5 hour drive, but we took the Mississippi River Scenic river road. It was breathtaking while driving alongside the mighty Mississippi, and taking in all of the greens and blues from the water. The Bluffs were amazing! I can’t imagine being a first settler here since it would be very hilly and almost mountainist to travel along.
The unfortunate part of this journey was, we went when it felt like the whole town escaped! Not much going on. For a classic college town, the bars and restaurants were literally closed. It was pretty tough to find anything to do…. outside of enjoying the scenery and grounding back to Mother Nature.
A few takeaways for things to do. Do a paddleboat cruise along the Mississippi River. The La Crosse Queen was very enjoyable and sight seeing was phenom. We would both recommend a couple of restaurants. The first one was fabulous. It was right on the river and adjacent to a boat wharf. Very beautiful. Service was excellent and food was very good. Drinks were just ok. It was called Huck Finns.
Next restaurant was David Reays. Great atmosphere and ambiance. Friendly servers. Kind of pricey. But we tried a lobster corn dog for $24.00 which was outstanding really. Who would of thought… Lobster in Lacrosse, WI… I know right?!
All in all, it was a pretty relaxing trip. We stayed at a hotel called Stoney Creek. The room was nice with a jacuzzi in it. I would call this hotel more of a family style with nicer amenities, relatively inexpensive in so far as hotels go with a free breakfast.
Just so you know, you will see the word “Coulee” everywhere it actually means deep ravine!
Over all, it was a nice relaxing journey. Great weather and people were over all friendly. Looking forward to more journeys with my lovely travel partner in this journey of life and on this big beautiful planet called earth!
